How can one describe the feeling of having your father's killers convicted and sentenced and then having that revoked because of a technicality. We just heard the news.
We thought it was over and that justice was finally served. We finally had closure after 20 years. They were convicted by a Jury of their peers, they were sentenced to life! There is not one person, including the judge, who does not agree that they murdered and did these heinous crimes. And yet, they can theoretically be out on a technicality.
I suppose only time will tell what will ultimately happen to these cops. Will the governments appeal be successful? Will they get tried by the state as they should be on murder charges, where there is no statute of limitations?
The drama will continue for a long time...
This past year has been a rollercoaster ride for us, and I guess the rollercoaster is still riding strong, with many twists and turns. These cops were responsible for destroying our lives when they killed my father, and we always had to be strong in order to survive. We will just have to continue to be strong as the saga continues.
We are left with nothing but faith in God that justice will ultimately be served and they will not literally get away with murder.

I can only imagine the anguish your family went through for so many years and am glad to read of your "peace" since your father was found.
I recently read the book Mob Cops and learned of the background behind the horrible ordeal. What is most disturbing in my view is that Burton Kaplan, the man who was truly the evil person behind your father's death lives on with a new identity and a new life. The two cops finally got what they deserved but if it weren't these two cops who did the deed, it certainly would have been someone else. Isn't Kaplan more to blame than anyone?
I know it won't bring your father back, and for that I'm sorry. But I personally would devote my life to making him pay as well, as true justice will not be served until retribution is served.
I'm a jew and I know the bible doesn't permit an eye for an eye, but God needs to explain how someone can go unpunished for such a hidious crime.

I posted because I'm a former Canarsie resident who had many "bad" friends growing up. Guys like Roy Demeo, antony Sentor and Joey Testa brutalized the neighborhood, destroyed lives, and took what they wanted all for the sake of money. One of my family's best friends were killed by both Sentor and Testa. Demeo was eventually killed by his own kind but I know one day Sentor and Testa will be released. A life sentence today doesn't mean life. No matter how much time they serve it's not enough for taking a life.
And for Burton Kaplan, no time was served at all for his dispicable cowardly act. And as was the case with our family friend, it was all for money.
